Summary

Hero Jak and his mischievous sidekick Daxter are back together and for the first time-ever they've joined forces on PSP. Get set for the latest addition to the smash-hit Jak and Daxter series, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Prepare for non-stop action and adventure as the duo travel across mysterious lands and take to the sky on a mission to save their planet from destruction. Take this incredible adventure with you anywhere on your PSP, or play it at home with PlayStation 2. Picking up from where the original Jak and Daxter trilogy left off, Jak and furry friend Daxter team up with their friend Kiera on her quest to become a Sage and save their world from the threat of darkness. As the environment of their planet slowly dies, our two worldly heroes embark on a mission to protect their world from the threat of "dark eco". Beginning on foot, you'll run and jump across undiscovered lands, before taking flight in one of five different aircrafts. With cheeky Daxter and our serious Hero Jak together on the adventure, fun and laughter is never far away. Blast airborne enemies and battle sky pirates with your powerful Gunstaff - a brand-new weapon that can transform into other new weapons. [Sony]

This is one of the best games for PlayStation 2, what is also the weak point of it. Graphics and game mechanics are not the same as in a PS3 game, so it isn’t stirring for me.

Cheat Code Central

If you've been hankering for a full-scale Jak and Daxter game for some time, The Lost Frontier largely fulfills its duty as a continuation of the main series with flying colors. It's not a perfect sequel by any means, but it's strong enough to merit a purchase and some solid play time. Just be prepared to deal with some bumps along the way.

Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier is a good game with here and there some setbacks. It plays smoothly, it’s fast-paced from the get go and it looks fine. There’s not much bad to say about the game, aside from some camera flaws.

There’s fun to be had here, but it could’ve been polished a bit more to bring out the value.

Unless you're a die-hard Jak and Daxter fan, Jak and Daxter: The Final Frontier isn't worth the coin.

Pelit (Finland)

It's clear that the developers didn't have enough time to properly finish the game. As it is now it's ugly and full of bugs and bad gameplay. A shame really, because with some proper polishing it could've been a really good platformer. [Jan 2010]

PALGN

Though let down its by haphazard combat mechanics, there are enough positives to The Lost Frontier to make it worth checking out for both fans of the series and of platforming games in general.

Visually, it looks decent, but not great. [Feb 2010, p.93]

Albert D. gave it a5:
I love the Jak and Daxter series but this game is a big disappointment. The camera is painful to control. I often find myself shooting at the screen in hopes of hitting enemy's I think is there. The controls are not spot on and Jak's animation's are a choppy compared to previous Jak and Daxter games. I feel like High Impact games could have spent more time to make the controls and the camera more polished. Also, the story feels weak and the dark Daxter sequences feel out of place. On the other hand the animation in cut scenes are what you would expect from the Jak and Daxter series. Overall, this game is mediocre at best.

David L gave it a5:
A deep disappointment for Jak fans, and a sad epitaph for the series. The camera is broken to the point that the game is frustrating. (As others have pointed out, the game is ported from the PSP version, and uses the shoulder-button camera rotation from that version instead of the proper right-stick camera control PS2 players expect.) The Dark Daxter sequences are annoying. The auto-aim of some of the guns makes the shooting gallery trials feel like a burden. The space action is fun, but it isn't enough to make up for the rest.

tarlouze thug gave it a9:
that's a really nice game, the flying gameplay was awesome. But where is dark and light Jak?
