Summary

Work the corners - Based on each pitcher’s mechanics and official scouting reports, Total Control Pitching lets you put the ball exactly where you want it -- provided you keep a close eye on your pitch count. Work the count - With Total Control Hitting you can time your swing to hit for power, put the ball in play or take a defensive cut. Batter's Eye uses a hitter’s real-life eye rating to help you identify Fastballs, Breaking Balls and Off Speed pitches before they get to the plate. The best play like the best - True-to-Life Player Rating System, Signature Style and a new Motion Model ensure every pitch, swing, catch, throw, steal and slide looks and feels like you’re at the ballpark. Become a living legend - With My Player mode you can create a player, choose a team and then play your way into the Hall of Fame. [2K Sports]

Gaming Age

It took a while, but MLB 2K10 has fixed enough, and added enough, to be an excellent way to play a baseball game on your TV. The multiplayer issues need to be fixed as soon as possible, but we're looking forward to the series using this year as a foundation for the future.

GameFocus

Not quite ready for the World Series, MLB 2K10 at least makes the playoffs this year. Visual Concepts are turning the series around slowly but there’s still a lot of work left to do.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)

It's still undermined by AI niggles, animation glitches, and the lack of a check swing. [May 2010, p.78]

Games Radar (in-house)

2K10 doesn’t match The Show’s amazing visuals and hyper-smooth gameplay, but it does offer a slightly more fan-friendly approach and a lot of charm. We can see the day when it can match The Show pitch for pitch.

The MyPlayer mode is easily accessible, even to those that don't care for Franchise modes, and the improved gameplay (for the most part) and presentation make this game closer to the real thing than the competition. Imagine how much more awesome next year's will be.

Makes players feel like they're playing baseball, rather than watching a telecast or playing a videogame. Falls short of competitor in visuals and overall depth, but gets the most important aspects of core gameplay and immersion just right.

Game Over Online

MLB 2K10 is a good game of baseball. Not a great game, yet, but a good game. I will say that for the first time in recent memory, I get the sense playing this game that it does have the chance to be a great game in the next couple of years.

MLB 2K10 is heading in the right direction, but it’s not quite where it needs to be yet.

Playstation Universe

MLB 2K10 is a great improvement over its predecessor. Baseball fanatics are sure to enjoy progressing a character in My Player, the vast knowledge in the commentators, and the new batting and hitting mechanics.

ith a solid start for MyPlayer mode, and a strong big picture batting and pitching mechanic in place, I'm quite optimistic for the 11th iteration of MLB 2k.

If you're a serious baseball fan then you may want to try MLB 10: The Show, but if you're looking for something to jump right into then this might be up your alley.

MLB 2K10, despite its many flaws, is still a much better core game of baseball than the series presented last year.

There's nothing new or innovative to the genre here, but there is a lot to enjoy. The half-broken online play needs to be addressed before the series goes forward.

MLB 2K10 marks the 10th anniversary of the baseball franchise with a greatly improved game that's the best in the history of the series.

Gamer 2.0

It lacks a ton of polish in the visual and animation departments that are important to give the game all the details it needs to actually feel like you’re at the ballpark rather than just playing a game.

MLB 2K10 is an improvement in many ways perhaps, most importantly, it won't be an embarrassing butt of jokes on the Internet.

GameShark

This is the first time in a long time that 2K has a viable baseball game in its stable, and while there remain many issues that need to be addressed either via a patch or for 2K11, at least now the developers have something real to build on rather than being forced to start all over again.
