Summary

RATING: Not Rated

Starring Vegard Hoel, Stig Frode Henriksen, Jenny Skavlan, Charlotte Frogner, and Jeppe Beck Laursen

The group of friends had all they would need for a successful Easter vacation; cabin, skis, snowmobile, toboggan, copious amounts of beer and a fertile mix of the sexes. Certainly, none of them had anticipated not returning home alive! However, the Nazi-zombie battalion haunting the mountains surrounding the aptly named Oksfjord had other plans. (IFC Films)

Entertainment Weekly Lisa Schwarzbaum

Cheery, silly, splattery, and respectful of its elders (and betters, particularly Sam Raimi's "The Evil Dead").

New York Post V.A. Musetto

Wirkola keeps the narrative taut, wasting not a frame; and he throws in funny moments.

May have a dull title, but it's lively, idiotic fun, at least until it goes too far past "too far" into the realm of "far too far."

Any horror movie with the moxie to play Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" during a zombie attack can't be all bad.

The pic reveals itself as a horror-action-comedy a la "Evil Dead," with amusing twists of fate and over-the-top gore.

The concept doesn't go much further than the wardrobe department--that is, until a deliriously over-the-top climax finally rouses the film from its "Evil Dead"-mimicking stupor.

If you tamp down your expectations -- those gaping plot holes are dangerous! -- there is a storm of scary fun to be had in this Scandinavian splatterfest.

Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

Dead Snow, as you may have gathered, is a comedy, but played absolutely seriously by sincere, earnest young actors.

The New York Times Manohla Dargis

As is often the case with movies of this type, the real stars are the special-effects team, which does some admirably disgusting work.

Village Voice Chuck Wilson

For more than half of this 90-minute film, director Tommy Wirkola plays things pretty straight--a mistake, perhaps, since the first half is pretty boring--but once the Nazi zombies start arriving en masse, he abruptly shifts to an "Evil Dead"–style zaniness, including the sight of a potential victim hanging off the side of a mountain while using a zombie's entrails as rope.

This Norwegian zombie flick is perfect for those who just want a few good jolts and whole lot of gore.

So Dead Snow fulfills one zombie-movie prerequisite. It's different.

The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Farber

This blood-soaked melodrama -- a far cry from most foreign films -- has been a festival favorite and might well develop a cult following, though it's far too gory to reach beyond the core audience.

San Francisco Examiner Walter Addiego

This splatter film is set in Norway, but rest assured, it sticks with the formula. The young people to be killed off are just as obnoxious as their counterparts in American gorefests.

Chicago Reader J.R. Jones

Combining the undead and the Third Reich seems like a novel idea--the peanut butter and jelly of trash culture--but in fact Spanish exploitation legend Jesus Franco already got to it back in 1981 with "Oasis of the Zombies."

Mike gave it a0:
Stay away from this movie! cheesy horror film with ugly actors.

maciej s gave it a10:
This movie was awesome, a real cult and revival of the old school zombie movies, and also gorelike movies overallz. Nazi zombies reminds me of a classic film entitled Surf Nazis Must Die.

Adam P. gave it a1:
Boring, formulaic crap. Bad acting, terrible script, and none of this is excused by the pathetic attempt at sending itself up. 63? I think not. Maybe 13 at best.

Jay H. gave it a7:
What a great horror movie, it is a familiar tale but at least it has a unique approach and plenty of unexpected twists. The acting is good, the atmosphere is excellent. Great zombie effects. The cinematography is excellent as is the score. Plenty of blood and gore for those into that.

Mike G. gave it a7:
This movie is one of the best horror comedies i have seen all year. It starts of a little slow prior to the first killing, but it gets better. It has some comedy mixed in with a lot of blood and gore. This group of actors are perfect for this movie, it's a comedy but they take it seriously all throughout the movie. A tad bit predictable at some parts(when the army of zombies came from the snow). But all in all a great movie, a great watch if you would like to see a gory movie without getting scared silly. I give it a 7.

K P gave it a2:
This movie was a joke. No way in hell it deserves the 63 rating it scored. It's like a bad 70s horror flick some college students knocked out with a few camcorders. I've been watching a bunch of horror movies lately...and it's no where near the level of Cloverfield, Splinter, The Ruins...as this film a B or C grade film, it sure doesn't deserve as high a rating! Silly acting, ridiculous plot, and low quality production.
